- Crime novelist and creator of the private eye Lew Archer, Ross MacDonald is often linked to his predecessors Dashiell Hammett and Raymond Chandler as a master of the "hard-boiled" school of detective fiction, but MacDonald added a psychological depth and a unity of theme which was unique.
MacDonald was born Kenneth Millar in Los Gatos, California. His parents were Canadian, and the family moved back to Canada when Kenneth was three, after which his father abandoned them. For most of his youth Millar was shunted around from relative to relative; at one point his mother even considered putting him in an orphanage but relented right at the orphanage gates, and poverty, rootlessness and the search for family would become major motifs in his work. He attended schools in Ontario, graduating from the University of Western Ontario in 1938, then doing graduate work at the University of Toronto and the University of Michigan.
He had been writing short, light pieces for school newspapers but turned to more serious work during a stint in the US Naval Reserve during World War II. His first books were published under his own name, but in 1949 he brought out "The Moving Target" under the pen name John MacDonald in order to avoid confusion with his wife, Margaret Millar, who also wrote crime fiction. However, John D. MacDonald, creator of the Travis McGee series, complained that John MacDonald was his own real name, and perhaps Millar should get another pen name, so he settled on Ross MacDonald.
"The Moving Target" marked the first appearance of Lew Archer; the name was taken from "Ben-Hur" author Lew Wallace and the name of Sam Spade's murdered partner Miles Archer in Dashiell Hammett's "The Maltese Falcon." A moderate success, "The Moving Target" was followed by "The Drowning Pool" in 1950 (filmed later as The Drowning Pool (1975)) and 19 more, including "The Barbarous Coast" (1956), "The Galton Case" (1959), "The Wycherly Woman" (1961), "The Goodbye Look" (1969), "The Underground Man" (1971), "Sleeping Beauty" (1973) and his last, "The Blue Hammer" (1976).
During the 1960s and 1970s his critical reputation grew: he was the subject of a Newsweek cover story in 1971, and Nobel Prize-winning British author William Golding said that his works were "the finest series of detective novels ever written by an American author." His audience base was widened with film versions of "The Moving Target" (as Harper (1966), with Paul Newman and "The Drowning Pool" (also with Newman, 1975). A film version of an early Kenneth Millar book, "Blue City" (1947, filmed as Blue City (1986)), was less successful.
MacDonald passed away at his home in Santa Barbara, California, after a three-year battle with Alzheimer's Disease. - Jason Jurman was born on 6 November 1979 in Los Gatos, California, USA. He was an actor, known for The Bedford Diaries (2006), Law & Order: Special Victims Unit (1999) and Cougar Club (2007). He died on 11 October 2014 in Los Angeles, California, USA.

Born and raised in Boise, Idaho, Sterling developed an eye for directing during his teen years. In 1990, he spent the summer studying Video Production at the Art Institute of Seattle. He continued pursuing his passion the following summer at Boise State University. In 1993, the opportunity to apprentice Ron Contarsy in New York City arose allowing Sterling to spend the remainder of the year in the Big Apple. His apprenticeship opened many doors and gave him the opportunity to photograph fashion models for Next and Elite Models around Manhattan.
After years working as a Fashion Photographer, Sterling's interests in motion pictures sparked a relocation to Los Angeles and the writing of his first film, "Duel on Planet Z." Upon entry into the Newport Film Festival, the film gained distribution by Smash Cuts Super Sci-Fi. Several shorts later, in 2005, Sterling created his own production company called Hip How Hang Productions. His flare for comedy and sensational sense of humor prompted the making of many popular spoof commercials that soon led to a deal with Monster energy drink and Mendelsohn/Zien Advertising.
Short commercial spoofs led to feature film spoofs of the popular "Twilight" series. His YouTube channel gained over a million hits because of "Not Twilight" and was voted Best Twilight Spoof by the Sisterhood Pants radio podcast. He continues to write and direct here in Los Angeles.- Editor

Brian Toth was born in Northern California, and raised in Healdsburg, an upscale quaint winery town in Sonoma County. While growing up, he loved and trained his 3 horses, particularly aiming for the Olympics in Equestrian sports. After witnessing his younger sisters and mom taking dance classes, he took up dance and spent 13 years studying and performing dance. After learning the love of performing for an audience, Brian turned his interest towards acting in high school. After performing in many school productions, he joined local outside theater groups; starring in musicals and eventually, finding commercial work. He was also scouted for modeling gigs, and landed a runway show for Guess? Jeans.
In 2002, Brian decided to pursue acting and modeling full time and moved to Los Angeles. Realizing he needed a day job to support him through auditions, he worked as the Market/Fashion editor for Genre Magazine, while also working as a freelance stylist; dressing clients for magazines editorials, the Emmys, television, and ad campaigns; which have been featured in The Los Angeles Times, Playboy, VH1, Genre, Instinct, and Ocean Drive. Being on sets kept inspiring the Hollywood bug, and he started landing work within film, music videos, television, and fashion shows.
After a few years as a "struggling actor", Brian decided he needed a break from the LA scene, and moved to Kauai to spend time with his relocated parents. This gave Brian just the recharge before moving back and landing a lead role in the Indy Award Winning film "Rolling". Next up was a part in the film noir "Dark Streets". Brian also earned notoriety with the paparazzi and was seen in People, Star, InTouch, and Life & Style magazines as the "Paris Impersonator", after a requested cameo from pal Paris Hilton to join her in filming the infamous "Simple Life" season 4 finale: "The Confrontation"; as well as personifying her in local LA club events and parties.
This brought on several personal projects, including adding club promoter to his list; ("Motel" at The Standard on Sunset Blvd, as well as "HYPE" at Ritual in Hollywood). Although short lived, he met many industry insiders, and continued landing runway shows for LA Fashion week, as well as commercials and TV cameos.
By the 2010's Brian found himself happily married, and creating a much more private home life. While still picking up occasional acting jobs, and a few model projects coming up, his love of the domestic life brought forth his own personal brand, creating Brian Toth Lifestyle; an interior design and decor business, which also features a DIY blog.- Nadine Elise was born on 28 January 2004 in Los Gatos, California, USA. Greg grew up in Los Gatos, California. As early as he can remember, he was immersed in the sounds of the Bay Area - from the Monterey Jazz Festival to the ethnic sounds in Santa Cruz, to the consistently eclectic San Francisco music scene, he absorbed the diverse blend of musical styles. His musical journey began with trumpet at age 9. Drums became his sole passion after receiving his first set of drums at age 12, teaching himself by playing along to records. He moved to Los Angeles in 1984 and began ten years of touring and recording as a sideman. During his travels, he also began collecting percussion instruments from around the world. As he became familiar with these instruments, he was particularly interested in their melodic and tonal capabilities. He could finally use drums to compose his own music, and continue his deepening interest in exploring the true power of rhythm.
Greg eventually set up his own studio and began composing and producing not only his own material, but also music for film and television. He discovered how important it is to record in real time, without the artifice of looping or sequencing - a rare approach in today's musical landscape. He realized this was the only way to truly tap into the devotional spirit of music in which so many of his influences were deeply rooted. This approach laid the foundation for his work with Vas.- Producer
